The Lunar New Year is a traditional festival that falls on the first day of February every year. It originated in China and has become a widely held event in countries like Russia, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand and others throughout Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Finally, on january 1st, the entire Chinese community celebrates and gives thanks to the lunar New Year as well as all the deities and protector spirits that helped make the transition smoother. This is also the beginning of the planting season. Farmers plant new seeds and pump up their fields to prepare for the coming planting season. This is also the time when they start to prepare their rice and wheat for storage. Although Chinese people traditionally exchange presents on the new year, the festival is not regarded as a form of money exchange.
